Gabby Young & Other Animals – Bloomsbury Ballroom (Thurs 4th March)

Last October Gabby Young and her band the Other Animals played a fantastically received album launch gig at Bush Hall, surrounding the sold out crowd with an array of art, craft & fashion stalls, as well as treating them to a full performance of the album. Most people who were there (myself included) will have wondered how they could possibily top it. To launch their new single ‘Ones That Got Away’ last night, the band managed to pull it off. An even bigger and more ambitious show, with more of the unique touches that made the last one so special.

Jan/Feb Gig Round-Up – Part 1

I have a bit of catching up to do, so thought I’d wrap up a bunch of gigs from this year so far.

Fyfe Dangerfield – Downstairs At The King’s Head (15th January)

I was unable to make Fyfe’s Scala gig due to work commitments, so was pleased to discover this low-key warm up gig. The Guillemots frontman was performing tracks from his new solo album ‘Fly Yellow Moon’, and the entire gig was a very stripped down affair, with a lot being played on acoustic guitar or piano only, although he occasionally ventured into loop pedal teritory, but only to provide a basic background beat.

Hidden Door Festival / Sick Kids Sunday – Edinburgh (30th/31st Jan)

I spent last weekend in Edinburgh, experiencing the city and attending some fantastic gigs. It’s somewhere I’ve wanted to go for ages, as I’d only previously paid a fleeting visit on the way home from T In The Park about 6 years ago. After seeing the amazing line-up for the Sick Kids Sunday gig and having a quick look at how easy it would be to get there, I quickly found myself booking trains and a hotel to make the trip!
